About this site

This blog is about exploring a sense of place at a community icon. It’s an open sketchbook and journal of art, writing, and science done on Tumamoc Hill. Tumamoc is a highly protected Sonoran Desert wild land research preserve, on the wild western side, and surrounded by urban Tucson. It’s an historic landmark and site of the old Desert Laboratory,  the first field station in the world established only for the study of deserts. It’s an archaeological preserve, a gathering place for people for the last 2500 years.
